Carbon
Neutral Fuel Research at LANL
F. Jeffrey Martin,
Los Alamos National Laboratory Decisions Applications
Division
LANL has developed a low-risk, transformational concept,
called Green Freedom™, for large-scale production of
carbon-neutral, sulfur-free fuels and organic chemicals from
air and water.
Currently, the principal market for the Green Freedom™
production concept is fuel for vehicles and aircraft.
At the heart of the technology is a new process for
extracting carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and making it
available for fuel production using a new form of
electrochemical separation. By integrating this
electrochemical process with existing technology,
researchers have developed a new, practical approach to
producing fuels and organic chemicals that permits continued
use of existing industrial and transportation
infrastructure. Fuel production is driven by carbon-neutral
power.
Mr. Martin will be talking about this and other related work
at LANL.
Tuesday, August 11, 8:30-9:30 am KRSN AM 1490, Los Alamos
Geothermal Energy for New Mexico and the Planet
Dave Duchane,
Fenton Hill Geothermal Project, Los Alamos
The United States pioneered the first Enhanced Geothermal
Systems effort, then termed Hot Dry Rock, (HDR) at Fenton
Hill,
in the Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico, about 35
miles west of Los Alamos.
This was a project run by Los Alamos National Laboratory. It
was the first attempt anywhere to make a deep, full-scale
hot dry rock reservoir, and efforts there spanned 1974
through 1992, in two phases. Along with Don Brown, Dave
Duchane had worked for many years to develop geothermal
resources from Fenton Hill. The project has been halted,
however recently efforts have begun again to revive it. Mr.
Duchane will be on the program to discuss Fenton Hill,
Enhanced Geothermal Systems and Hot Dry Rock geothermal
energy potential for New Mexico and the planet.

Susan Burns,
Managing Director, Global Footprint Network. "The
Ecological Footprint" is a data-driven metric that tells us how
close we are to the goal of sustainable living.
Footprint
accounts work like bank
statements, documenting whether we are living within our
ecological budget or consuming nature's resources faster than
the planet can renew them.
In 2003, Global
Footprint Network was established to enable a sustainable future
where all people have the opportunity to live within the means
of one planet.
Ms. Burns leads the
overall strategic direction of Global Footprint Network and
oversees communications, partnership, project development and
finance. Prior to launching Global Footprint Network, Susan
founded the pioneering sustainability consulting firm Natural
Strategies. She has over 18 years of experience working with
more than 50 corporations and other organizations on a variety
of sustainability-related issues including: product design,
consensus building, management systems, business strategy,
forest policy and stakeholder communications. More information

Tuesday, August 4, 8:30-9:30 am KRSN AM 1490, Los Alamos
Robert G. Hockaday,
founder Energy Related Devices, Inc.
"Nature Provides the Models for Energy Solutions"
- Robert Hockaday
Energy Related Devices (ERD) was created to manifest the
vision that energy can be produced cleanly, simply and
economically through technologies modeled on systems in
nature. Toward this goal, ERD pushes the limits of science
and engineering in the process of conceiving new
energy-related technologies and products with the potential
to generate both great changes and great profits.
Mr. Hockaday will be talking about advanced fuel cell
technologies he developed including his Micro Fuel CellT and
"Micro Mirror Photovoltaic Cells", both of which have been
engineered to mimic cellular functions in nature.
What potential applications do these fuel cells have in a
new energy matrix and transportation? We'll also be looking
the critical relationships between Los Alamos National Lab
and the creation of co-located private enterprises like
Energy Related Devices, Inc. Is augmented funding for NM's
two labs critical to the creation and bolstering of a
science, technology, and research cluster as a significant
economic driver in New Mexico?

Dr. Allan Lichtman, Professor of History American University,
Author and Commentator
Lichtman
is the author or co-author of six books and more than 100
articles. He is best known for the "Keys" system, presented in
his books
The Thirteen Keys to the Presidency and
The Keys to the White House.
The system uses thirteen historical factors to predict whether
or not the popular vote in the election for
President of
the United States will be won by the candidate of the
party holding the presidency (regardless of whether the
President is the candidate). The keys were selected based on
their correlations with the presidential election results from
1860 through 1980, using statistical methods adapted from the
work of
geophysicist
Vladimir
Keilis-Borok for predicting earthquakes. The system
then correctly predicted the popular vote winner in each of the
elections of 1984 through 2008, including 2000.
Additionally Dr. Lichtman is a highly respected and sought
after commentator, having had more than 2,000 appearances on
television and radio networks including NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN,
MSNBC, FOX, BBC, CBC, VOA, and other media outlets worldwide.
